There are some things I accepted as immutable truths of this world, one of those being that I would never be a long distance runner. I’m just not built for it. I’m 6’6” and broad, not slight like most NBA centers. I’m built like an NFL offensive lineman. Today, with 179 days to the Warrior Dash, I finished Week 1 of the Couch to 5k program. It wasn’t pretty. My...

Pushing Hard
205 days 2.5 lbs down (taken with a grain of salt) and today I walked 4.5 miles. Eating dinner and cooling down before I do another workout, this one in the house with the kettlebell. A week ago I realized I wasn’t dipping low enough while working the kettlebell and man what a difference it made! Dinner is beef, spinach, chicken, carrots. And water. Lots of water to replace what I sweated...

2012 Races
So I’ve decided just doing one race isn’t enough, I’m making it a goal to do six races in 2012. And I’ve already got the first three picked out. Jan. 21-22 - Warrior Dash Central Florida Feb. 25th - Spartan Race Miami Mar. 10th - Spartan Race Atlanta I would commit to a race a month but that’s hard to do, and three races in three months for someone who’s never...

As I’m submerging myself in this world of training, fitness, working out, I’m looking for a constant stream of positive message media and this has been a great and inspirational listen.

And we're back
Fell off the wagon. Still fat. But now we’re taking a new track. We’ve set a race goal. It’s big. It’s scary. It’s probably insane. But, well, I don’t play it safe. Feb. 25th, 2012 Spartan Super Race - 8+ miles and 15+ obstacles So there’s the goal. Right now I can barely run 1/4 of a mile. So I’ve got a ways to go. I hate training for the sake...

Falling off the wagon sucks. Every. Damn. Time. Katie and I are coming to the realization that the only way this works is if we’re both at the same level of seriousness about the importance of what we’re doing. My snacking still sucks. I’m a chocolate and soda fiend. We’re working out again. I’m recovering from a week long illness, so I still have some congestion...

If someone held a gun to my head and told me they were going to kill me, you had better believe I’m going to fight them. I might lose, but there is no way I’m going to just sit there and let myself get shot. If I was attacked by a grizzly bear, I’d wrestle it with all my strength and kick and punch and gouge and fight. If I was clinging to a rock ledge, hundreds of feet off...

Still Here, Pushing It
Still on the bandwagon, was on a semi-vacation last weekend for Dragon*Con. Did not work out enough (other than being fairly physical over the days) and ate moderately (but not really great.) Yesterday, first full day back in Orlando, I hit the gym and did a light weights workout and what ended up being a really tough 25 minute cardio workout. Ten minutes into the workout I wanted to quit, I...

Where did I go?
Well the good news is I didn’t fall off the wagon. I’m still pushing hard and seeing slow results. The problem is that I have been on a number of trips (and am about to go on another) that forced me to abandon my blogging while I traveled. I’m working out, beginning to incorporate weights into my routines (doing a lot of research but I think I’ve settled on my list.) This...

“Tell me what you don’t like about yourself?”

I’m fighting some sort of con crud so I haven’t gone to the gym. But I want to. I want to work out. I’m going to go back to the Sean O’Malley series for interval training since it worked so well for me a few years ago when I was having my workout success. P90X - It seems like the P90X system is in style right now. It hit a magic cord and has a strong following. I thought...

Give me a Y
Well I fell off the wagon again. Clearly. Now we’re going again, with extra financial incentive - spending on a gym membership. Joined the Y, am just getting going again. A 20 minute interval training bike ride was intense this morning, but feel fairly sure I’ll be able to make it a daily thing.

345.6 lbs (-3.3 lbs since last Wednesday, -4.6 lbs since I began measuring a month ago.) 34.9% body fat I rowed for nearly 20 minutes this morning, nothing overly strenuous, just getting up a good sweat. My strategy for this is to row while watching an episode of Samurai Jack. I have the entire series on my laptop, and they run around 22 minutes. I also have begun taking 3g of Fish Oil after...

On track to eat right today, got my protein, fruit, spinach. Allowed myself a granola bar for breakfast. Going to be trying for a full paleo day.

Today I’ve sucked at eating healthy. I have to row and exercise to make a dent in the bad-ness. Fuck.

Last night I cooked up nearly four pounds of chicken to be the core of my diet for this week. I also bought a pound of sirloin steak, which I’m going to do for dinner later this week. I had some pork for dinner last night with a small piece left over. I’m feeling really motivated, eager to lose weight and get my ass in shape.
